The 7 Best Scenic Views and Instagrammable Spots in Northampton

Northampton is a medium-sized city in Western Massachusetts and the home of Smith College. It has a lively art and music scene and is known as a countercultural hub.

The main street is lined with beautiful brick buildings. The town is filled with green spaces, trails, and parks. There are art galleries, restaurants, shops, and theaters throughout the town.

Cracker Barrel Alley

This street has been closed to cars and is now the home of two striking murals by Jonathan Kohrman and Kim Carlino. Cracker Barrel Alley is located across from City Hall.  


The Botanic Garden of Smith College

With constantly changing gardens, this is a spot you can return to throughout the year. It's open Monday through Friday and has a suggested donation of $2 to visit.
 

The Hotel Northampton

This historic building is a stunning backdrop for an Instagram photo both inside and out. Located right downtown at 36 King Street, it's worth a stop. 


Norwottuck Rail Trail Bridge

The trail itself is beautiful but make sure to take in the views on the bridge over the Connecticut River between Northampton and Hadley. The bridge is an eight-span steel lattice truss bridge and goes over an island in the middle of the river. You can walk or bike across the bridge.
 

Bluebonnet Diner

This super cute, bright blue dinner has a retro feel and great homemade food. There is even a model train that runs along the top of the windows inside. Located at 324 King Street.


Academy of Music

The outside of this impressive historic building is a mix of old-school box office and modern lighting. Get a picture in the evening when the lights are on. Located at 274 Main St.
 

Look Park

Located in the village of Florence, this park is a memorial to Frank Newhall Look. With playgrounds, pedal boats, a train, miniature golf, and more, you'll find a ton of Instagrammable moments. Located at 300 North Main Street in Florence.

Grab a Pinch of Northampton

The first time I drove through Northampton I was captivated by its energy. It was a damp evening; the red brick buildings reflected and blended the lights of the shops until the town looked like a painting. Through the car window I could hear the strumming of street performers and the bustling of shoppers enjoying the town's melting pot of unique shops and restaurants. It seemed impossible that this town seemed to emerge out of the farmland nestled around it.
