Rockport is only an hour north of Boston and a great day trip destination for the whole family. The downtown area is very walkable and kid-friendly.
A quintessential New England fishing village, Rockport has developed a thriving art community over the years, which you can see if you take a stroll down Bearskin Neck. You'll find dozens of little shops, art galleries, and restaurants to explore along the way. At the end of the street is a rock jetty with beautiful views.
Don't miss a stop at The Paper Mermaid. The kids will love the toys and art supplies, and you'll love the fun paper products and gifts. The owner of this quaint shop is an illustrator in her own right and has a children’s book called A Day in Rockport.
Stop for lunch at Roy Moore Lobster Co for the freshest seafood around and when you're ready for a sweet snack, check out Rockin’ Cupcakes for one of their creative treats.
A kayak tour from North Shore Adventures is perfect for the adventurous family. There are a variety of tours, from overnight camping trips to tours for viewing seals and birds. You can also rent kayaks or paddle boards for your own harbor tour.
If you prefer to stay on land, check out Halibut Point State Park. You can explore the park's trails and tide pools, pack a picnic to eat on the rocky ledges, and learn about the park's granite industry history while viewing the quarry.
Or, go for a walk on the three miles of trails on Thatcher Island Twin Lights island. The island is about 1 mile off the coast of Rockport and accessible by kayak or boat.
And of course, there is always swimming at Front Beach or exploring on Back Beach.
Check out what's showing at the Little Art Cinema for a family movie night.
If you decide to stay the night, check out the historic oceanfront Emerson Inn. The next morning, enjoy a full-service breakfast with an ocean view!
